eBay Article: Finding Products to Sell on eBay
A common problem for newbies to eBay when starting a business is knowing what they could sell.
I am often asked should I sell electronics or should I sell the ipods or questions of a similar nature. This is a question everyone asks when they first get started on ebay and it’s hardly suprising that many people don’t really have a clue how to even get started.
So what is the excited newbie supposed to do when it seems that every original idea has been taken.Well I find that a good starting point is your own interests and hobbies after all there is a saying if you are doing what you love you aren’t really working anyway … that seems a good place to start to me don’t you think?
If you have an idea for products in a specific niche market and are not sure how popular your choice might be you could use eBay to check out if the market has brought your type of products in the past. After all there is no point at all in selling stuff no one wants is there?
When I was first looking for ideas I started talking to family and friends and asked them what they liked to buy. At the time my sister was planning a hiking trip and was looking to buy a two man tent. When I did some research for her I found dozens of others looking for similar things.
When you visit a book store or a shop which sells speciaility magazines you can find books on almost any subject you can imagine. Try asking the owner which topics seem to be the most popular at the moment and you will come up with some great ideas.
You might not know but even eBay has ways you can find out which products are selling well at the moment. If you visit the eBay Seller Central section of eBay you can find under ‘What’s Hot’ the most popular items being sold on eBay at the moment. Obviously this is used by many people but a bit of lateral thinking should spark some ideas.
You should always bear in mind that it’s highly improbable that you will come across a single product that is selling well enough to build a business from and you should look to diversify your portfolio of products. Seasonal products may sell well but I don’t suggest selling Christmas decorations in the middle of summer.
As of now you are still pretty much at a loss what to sell but just start applying some of these ideas and it won’t be long before you are up and running. All I recommend is you build your business slowly and don’t rush in to things until you have done enough research.
